Money Fast

All right, so I was not planning on talking about this a whole lot but it seems to have generated enough questions to explain a little.

I decided, last week, that I would go on a fast. I do this in the spring, usually. Not because I put it on my calendar or anything but because my body seems to ask for it around the same time of the year.

So, I lighten up.

This year, as I was getting ready to start, I felt compelled to add another element to this quiet time of simplicity. I would go on a money fast as well.

As I got my kitchen ready for a few days of non-activity, I got my mind - and life - ready for a few days of no money activity as well.

I bought dog food, paid some bills, put a little bit of gas in my car - and put my wallet away.

And it's been great. Easy. Simple. Clean.

The fact that this is a rare week of solitude in my home has been perfect for this.

Actually, except for a couple of clients, a walk with my daughter and quick hugs with friends, I have been on a bit of a people fast, too.

How do I feel?

A little funny.

A little floaty.

Somehow "simplified."

I like it.

  1. I love the idea of this. How do you go about fasting? Just lots of water and no food?
Love the money fast idea, but this is nothing new for me as I seem to be on a money fast perpetually:-)

  2. Christie, it is actually more of a cleanse than a fast as I have been drinking a mixture of lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. And water.

And for the money fast, it is different than "being broke." It is a complete simplifying - and again cleansing that is a conscious decision. You see what I mean? Even for a day, it feels really great.

  3. How long do you drink this mixture? I am interested in the cleanse process, but have never tried it.

  4. Well, I am on my 6th day now and the recommended length of time is 10 days. But heck even one day of rest is great. You can find tons of info online about it, it is called "The Master Cleanse." I understand the book, by Stanley Burroughs is very informative as well. I think that one of the reasons it has been easy for me is that my kids have not been home so I have not cooked AT ALL. When they come home tomorrow, it may be a different situation...

  5. Hello Miss Laura-

The idea of a "money fast" was so intriguing to me, I decided to try a fast of my own--a television fast. Thanks for getting the wheels turning!

  6. I think that "fasts" are awesome and rejuvenating. I did a few days of a "car fast" (not to be confused with a "fast car," last week also and even that felt wonderful.
And then last night, as my boys got home, I realized that I had missed preparing food more than eating it. That was a fun surprise!

Maybe "fasts" make us more aware of what matters to us and connected to our choices.

    Thanks for sharing, Victorea!
